Ukraine Refuses Peace Talks with Russia, U.S. Temporarily Suspends Military Aid
The United States has temporarily suspended military aid to Ukraine, impacting hundreds of millions of dollars in arms and ammunition that were in the pipeline or on order. The decision follows a heated Oval Office meeting on Friday between President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
According to White House officials, the pause will remain in effect until Ukraine demonstrates a good-faith commitment to peace negotiations with Russia.
“The President has been clear that he is focused on peace,” a White House spokesperson stated. “We need our partners to be committed to that goal as well. We are pausing and reviewing our aid to ensure that it is contributing to a solution.”
On Monday, Trump confirmed the suspension, just days after his confrontation with Zelensky at the White House.
In a statement on Truth Social, Trump criticized Zelensky’s stance, saying:
“The worst statement that could have been made by Zelenskyy, and America will not put up with it for much longer!”
The decision signals a shift in U.S. policy, tying future military assistance to Ukraine’s willingness to engage in peace talks with Russia.

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. Announces $165 Billion Investment in U.S.
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC), the world’s largest chip manufacturer, announced on Monday that it will invest $165 billion in the United States over the next four years. The move marks a significant expansion of semiconductor production on U.S. soil, a key priority for the Trump administration.
Trump, appearing alongside TSMC CEO C.C. Wei at the White House, praised the decision, calling it a “tremendous move” and “a matter of economic security.”
“Semiconductors are the backbone of the 21st-century economy. And really, without semiconductors, there is no economy,” Trump stated. “Powering everything from AI to automobiles to advanced manufacturing, we must be able to build the chips and semiconductors that we need right here in American factories, with American skill and American labor.”
TSMC had previously committed $65 billion in U.S. investments, and this latest announcement brings the total to $165 billion.
Wei detailed the investment, stating it will fund:
- Three new chip manufacturing plants
- Two advanced packaging facilities
- Expansion of existing operations in Arizona
“This investment will create thousands of high-paying jobs,” Wei said.
TSMC, which supplies chips for Apple, Intel, and Nvidia, has already begun mass production of 4-nanometer chips at its first Arizona plant, which was built with support from the Biden administration’s semiconductor subsidies.
This expansion underscores the strategic importance of securing domestic semiconductor production, especially amid growing geopolitical tensions with China.

U.S. Tariffs on Canada and Mexico Take Effect on March 4
With just hours remaining before the implementation of new tariffs on Canada and Mexico, President Trump confirmed that the levies will move forward as planned.
“They’re all set,” Trump stated regarding the broad 25% tariffs on Mexican and Canadian imports, along with an additional 10% tariff on Chinese goods. “They go into effect tomorrow.”
On Monday, Trump emphasized that the tariffs were necessary to encourage manufacturing within the U.S.
“They’re going to have to have a tariff. So what they have to do is build their car plants, frankly, and other things in the United States, in which case they have no tariffs,” Trump said at the White House.
The tariffs on Mexico and Canada—which cover over $900 billion in annual U.S. imports—have raised concerns among CEOs and economists, who warn they could disrupt North America’s highly integrated economy.
Additionally, Trump announced:
- A reciprocal tariff policy set to take effect on April 2, targeting countries that impose duties on U.S. products.
- An increase in tariffs on all Chinese imports, raising them from 10% to 20% in retaliation for China’s continued fentanyl shipments to the U.S.
Trump accused Beijing of failing to curb illicit drug trafficking, stating:
“China has not taken adequate steps to alleviate the illicit drug crisis.”
The new trade policies signal a more aggressive approach to economic protectionism, reinforcing Trump’s commitment to reshaping U.S. trade relationships while pressuring foreign nations to relocate production to America.
