Hyundai Announces $21 Billion U.S. Investment Plan

Hyundai Motor Group has unveiled a comprehensive $21 billion investment plan to expand its presence in the United States, focusing on steel production, vehicle manufacturing, artificial intelligence (AI), and autonomous driving technologies. This investment will enhance Hyundai’s production capabilities, support innovation, and create thousands of jobs across multiple states.

Hyundai’s U.S. Investment Breakdown

The $21 billion investment will be allocated across four major sectors:

  • $5.8 billion – Construction of a new steel plant in Louisiana
  • $9 billion – Expansion of vehicle production facilities in the U.S.
  • $6 billion – Investments in AI, autonomous driving, and partnerships with NVIDIA
  • $7.6 billion – Development of a new electric vehicle (EV) factory in Georgia

$5.8 Billion Steel Plant in Louisiana

Hyundai is set to build a state-of-the-art automotive steel-making facility in Donaldsonville, Louisiana, which will produce over 2.7 million metric tons of steel annually and create more than 1,300 jobs.

As part of this effort, Hyundai will strengthen partnerships with leading U.S. companies, including:

  • NVIDIA – Accelerating AI development for autonomous driving and robotics
  • Supernal – Hyundai’s U.S.-based AAM division, which aims to commercialize an eVTOL (electric vertical takeoff and landing) vehicle by 2028

Hyundai will also invest in startups through venture capital and funding programs, supporting U.S. companies specializing in mobility, robotics, and AI.

This investment is expected to generate:

  • 14,000 direct full-time jobs
  • Over 100,000 indirect jobs across the U.S. by 2028
